Abstract & Presentations

Abstract Submission Deadline
Deadline: 11:59 PM CDT on March 30, 2012

Example Abstract

As with past ISAG conferences, posters will be the format of the presentations at the ISAG 2012 Conference. An abstract is required for each poster. Based on the abstracts, participants may be invited also to give an oral presentation at one of the workshops by the chair of the workshop. Accordingly, workshop speakers should provide an abstract and a poster. Note that invited plenary speakers are also requested to provide an abstract, but a poster is not expected.

You must be registered for the conference in order to submit an abstract (two abstracts per registrant). Please use the form below to submit abstracts. The abstracts should not be longer than 250 words (1500 characters maximum). Please use Times Roman size 12 font and justify both margins. The titles should be in boldface and less than 100 characters. The authors’ names should be in capital letters and the institutions in italics. The presenting author’s name should be underlined. Do not place references, figures or tables in the abstract. An example abstract is attached.

Note that these abstracts are used as part of the basis for awarding the early career scientist travel bursaries. So please indicate whether or not you are applying for a travel bursary.

There are poster prizes for early career scientists (that is, current students or scientists who have received their Masters or PhD in the last 3 years). Please indicate whether you are eligible and would like to be considered for a poster award when you submit the abstract.

Please select the most appropriate category for your abstract. The categories include:

  • Bioinformatics, statistical genetics & genomic technologies
  • Genetics and disease
  • Functional genomics
  • Structural & comparative genomics
  • Genetic diversity and polymorphisms
  • Genetic markers & selection

Posters

Posters should be portrait and 90 cm wide x 120 cm high in size. Note that landscape posters or larger posters will not fit on the poster display boards and therefore, cannot be mounted. In designing your poster, remember to use a font size and style that can be read from a distance of 2 metres. Also consider the colour of both the background and lettering so the poster will be legible.

Posters will be on display throughout the meeting but poster viewing sessions will be held during lunch on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. Posters should be mounted on the afternoon of Sunday, July 15th in Hall 2 of the Cairns Convention Centre based on the assigned number. Posters must be on display no later than 9 am on Monday, July 16th and must remain on display until 2 pm on Friday, July 20th. All posters must be collected by 5 pm on Friday, July 20th or they will be removed and destroyed.

Even numbered posters should be attended from 1 - 2 pm on Monday and odd numbered posters should be attended from 1 - 2 pm on Tuesday. On Thursday, all posters should be attended from 1 - 2 pm.

Note that pins will be provided to mount the posters. If Velcro is preferred, then you should bring your own. In an emergency, you can have your poster printed in Cairns. So please consider bringing an electronic copy of your poster with you, just in case your poster is lost in transit.

There are poster prizes for early career scientists (that is, current students or scientists who have received their Masters or PhD in the last 3 years). Please indicate whether you would like to be considered for a poster award when you submit the abstract. Note that the poster prizes will be awarded towards the end of the conference.

Lastly, please be aware that if abstracts are submitted but the posters are not presented at the conference, then the abstracts will be withdrawn. The abstract will not be published or available on the ISAG or Animal Genetics journal website. Therefore, please ensure that your poster is on display during the entire conference to avoid disappointment.

Speakers

A speaker ready room at the Cairns Convention Centre will be provided for speakers to download their presentations and review them. Please download and review your presentation at least 24 hours prior to your presentation. Details regarding the presentation format will be released closer to the conference start date.

Note that invited plenary speakers are requested to provide an abstract (see above). Workshop speakers should provide an abstract and a poster.
