ICAR and WCGALP

The World Congress on Genetics Applied to Livestock Production (WCGALP) is the premier international conference for livestock genetics and is held every four years. Since its inception in 1974 in Spain, meetings have been held in the USA, Scotland, Canada, Australia, France, Brazil, Germany and Canada. In February 2018, the 11th Congress will be held in Auckland, New Zealand.

The ICAR Annual Conference, including Interbull, brings together leading scientists and practitioners in animal recording and genetic evaluation from 60 countries. It is a showcase for a wide range of identification, recording and testing technologies. In February 2018, the ICAR meetings will be held in Auckland, New Zealand, immediately prior to the WCGALP meeting.

By synchronising and co-locating the ICAR and WCGALP meetings, some 1,200 delegates from a wide range of research, education, public, private and commercial organisations will have the opportunity to learn about the latest advances in areas such as identification, parentage verification, genotyping, phenotyping, genetic evaluation, breeding scheme design, breeding scheme operation and more, across all the main animal production and service species.
