The International Society for Animal Genetics (ISAG) aims to promote scientific research and studies on animal heredity, facilitating the exchange of ideas and materials between researchers worldwide. This includes organizing congresses, arranging international comparative tests, and supporting measures conducive to these goals. As part of these efforts, ISAG supports Short-Term Research Visits (STRV), allowing ISAG members to visit affiliated laboratories or institutes abroad for up to six months. These visits aim to foster collaboration and the exchange of techniques not available in their home institutions.

Objectives:

  • Facilitate knowledge sharing and collaboration among researchers worldwide.
  • Support young scientists in advancing their research careers.
  • Promote publications in Animal Genetics.
  • Utilize ISAG's financial resources to support its mission effectively.

Conditions:

  1. Eligibility:
    • Applicants, sending institutions/PIs, and host institutions/PIs must be current ISAG members.
    • Sending institutions/PIs and host institutions/PIs must be in two different countries (support cannot be used for a student to visit a laboratory within the same country).
    • Only early-career scientists are eligible for funding. "Early career" is defined as scientists who have or will have received a doctoral degree no more than five years prior to the STRV application.
  2. Application Submission:
    • Submit applications to the ISAG Executive Committee using the application form (available for download), including scientific objectives, work plans, benefits of the exchange (2–3 pages), and CVs.
  3. Duration:
    • The duration of the exchange must be from 2 to 6 months.
  4. Financial Support:
    • ISAG provides financial support up to a maximum of €10,000.
    • This support is primarily intended to cover
      • Travel expenses (round-trip tickets)
      • Accommodation costs
    • Costs for travel (round-trip tickets) and accommodation will be reimbursed by ISAG upon submission of appropriate receipts (e.g., flight ticket invoice, accommodation invoice) and claimed using the ISAG reimbursement form.
    • Only exceptionally, a daily allowance of up to €50 per day will be granted.
  5. Publication and Reporting:
    • Final reports are obligatory and must be submitted for publication on the ISAG web page.
    • Applicants are encouraged to publish their results in Animal Genetics and present them at upcoming ISAG meetings.
    • Publications in Animal Genetics resulting from STRV activities are eligible for a waiver of open access fees.
