Shengsong Xie is a professor at the College of Animal Science and Technology & College of Veterinary Medicine, Huazhong Agricultural University (Wuhan, P.R. China). His laboratory is engaged in research on pig gene editing and disease-resistant breeding, with a focus on developing efficient and precise gene-editing tools, innovating high-throughput functional CRISPR screening technologies for livestock, and identifying key disease-resistant targets, as well as exploring their regulatory mechanisms. These efforts have provided crucial theoretical and technical support for the development of new gene-edited animal breeds. Xie previously served as a visiting scholar at the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI, Nairobi, Kenya ) to conduct academic exchange and collaborative research. Having led multiple national-level projects—including the National Young Top-Talent Program, and a subproject of the National Key R&D Program—he has published numerous high-impact papers in renowned international journals such as Nature Communications and PLoS Pathogens. He also holds multiple authorized Chinese and international patents, and jointly won the First Prize of Science and Technology Progress from China’s Ministry of Education (2020) and the Second Prize of National Technological Invention (2024). Additionally, he serves as a Youth Committee member of the Division of Agricultural Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (affiliated with the Chinese Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology) and is a member of the Chinese Association of Animal Science and Veterinary Medicine and the Genome-Edited Animals Committee of ISAG, and also is a Youth Scientist Editor for several international journals, including BioDesign Research.
