Edwin Pancras Oyieng’ received his PhD from Justus-Liebig University in July 2025 with his thesis titled Genetic study of Red Maasai sheep and their Dorper crossbred’s performance in sub-Saharan Africa. He has extensive experience conducting genetic evaluations and implementing livestock improvement programs in low-input production systems with national and international partners. His experience in working with farmers at community level has enabled him to build a strong understanding of how to engage with communities of diverse socioeconomic status, impact knowledge, and co-create solutions and technological innovations for the improvement of livestock production through a community-based approach.

Rebecca Clarke completed her bachelor of science with honors in genetics and her PhD in genetics at the University of Otago, graduating in 2022. After the completion of her PhD, she worked as a postdoctoral scientist in the animal genomics team at AgResearch, New Zealand. She is currently a scientist in the same team, within the Bioeconomy Institute (a merging of AgResearch and other Crown research institutes in New Zealand). She is currently working on identifying structural variations in the New Zealand sheep population, with the aim of including this information into the selection of animals for breeding, as well as investigating the effects of selecting for feed efficiency and methane emission on lifetime production traits in sheep.
